The Flying Falcon initially started as the Aussie Battler, and after five years of operation (under Mulligan and Reily's ownership, respectively), Mulligan felt the truck was unable to perform to the level he wanted. In mid-July 1991, the truck received an extensive overhaul at the hands of Ed Mulligan himself and the team at Auto Crew in Sydney. Within a month, the new identity was completed.
Prior to rebuilding the truck, Mulligan approached the Australian motor company, Ford, which gave them permission to undergo the project and brought in their marketing team to assist. The construction was headed by Tim O'Brien and began with a Ford F350 chassis, as well as hardware from the Aussie Battler, such as the diffs, steering and other useful components. Its modernisation saw the installation of a new Ford 302 Windsor motor, a NASCAR-style heavy-duty steel internal roll cage and rollbars, among other safety and mechanical enhancements. It would later go on to become the Aussie Destroyer and was the third truck purchased by Vic Butler.
